In-situ recovery dissolves uranium underground and pumps the solution to surface, rather than digging rock out and milling it. It needs specific conditions: mineralization below the water table, in porous and permeable sandstone that fluid can move through. Agate is being tested against exactly those criteria, which is why the water table depth and the porosity of the host sand matter as much as the grade does. ISR is lower cost and lower footprint than conventional mining, and it is how most Wyoming uranium is produced today.
